Welcome to the 29 Palms Art Gallery, a landmark in Twentynine Palms, California, located since 1963 in a historic adobe at the Oasis of Mara, next to Joshua Tree National Park Headquarters & Oasis Visitor Center, 29 Palms Inn, and the Old Schoolhouse Museum. The gallery is owned and operated by the Twentynine Palms Artists’ Guild, the oldest arts organization in the Joshua Tree Gateway Communities, founded in 1951-52 by a group of desert artists, including famed painter John Hilton. In 1963, they purchased the adobe gallery, which was originally built in 1936 as a desert home for Western pulp fiction author Tom Hopkins. Today, the Gallery features monthly art shows September to June, a Summer Show in June-July, and a Summer Youth Arts Program in July-August; plus weekly paint outs, juried exhibitions, receptions, seasonal fund-raising events, and art classes for youth and adults. The Gift Shop offers Southwestern jewelry and gifts Regular season: Open 12 to 3 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday. Summer hours: 12 to 3, Friday-Saturday-Sunday.
