Peak Performance Swim Camp

We went to a two-day camp during memorial weekend. It's our first time to this camp, attracted to their advertising and low swimmer-to-coach ratio. However, for the two-day camp, both the morning of first day and afternoon session of second day, there is one coach short, leading to higher swimmer-to-coach ratio than expected. To be fair, among the three coaches, my kid and her teammate interacted with two (the other was for age group 11 and under), they liked one of the coach, but felt the second coach's mind and heart not being there. Given their positivity of the one of the coach, I would have rated this camp 2 or 3 stars, reflecting that it could be a hit or miss, depending on the coaches. However when I contacted Peak organizer to express my concerns about the coach shortage and other things that not matching their online advertising, I got a very rude response, suggesting that they really don't care about living up to what they say about the camp. If it is a hit and miss situation, I might give them a second try. However, the not caring attitude makes me feel that they are not going to try their best to ensure that each camp delivers, leading me no confidence in future camp with Peak.

Great swim camp. My child loved going everyday. There were many kids and they all seemed happy to show up each morning. The coaches know what they are doing; they do it every week in a new city and their program is strong. My kid is so excited about being a strong competitor in her sport. I’m so glad I sent her and I can’t wait to send her back next time they are in town!

First time here. I found it weird that random swimmers would just drop in for a swim session or two, since this was not an option online. Then I overheard one girl brag to another girl that she didn’t have to pay for any camps or clinics. I put it all together when Baker started to talk in creepy detail about swimmers he has special relationships with outside of Peak. I shelled out top dollar for this stupid Nike Camp and it was a slap in the face to hear that others were getting it for free. Most drills were really subpar, but overall average quality for a novice swimmer in a learn to swim program which is why I rated 2 stars and not 1. Wish the coaches had been more actively involved in coaching. Baker tried to ingratiate himself with me and my kid. I left feeling manipulated.

This camp is literally all over the place and all about turning a quick buck. I have been to the camp three times. Swim Coach Baker was there the first time. I know some people thought he was a disingenuous businessman, claiming coaching fame everywhere he went. While I don’t know if he truly was an Olympic Coach in the real sense, I thought my first experience was a positive one in that he was motivating and made the camp worthwhile. I returned a couple of years ago for the second time but felt he was distracted from coaching and spent most of his time on his phone. I decided to give it a third try recently but he wasn’t at my last camp at all. I don’t remember my last coach’s name, but I thought the drills were ineffective with no variety. In fact coming to the camp was detrimental for me because I missed my team practice. The staff were uninspiring and had no guidance on deck and for the most part were not even authentic swim coaches. I don’t usually give bad reviews, but this was a ripoff.
