Overview

PM Session: 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

THE FUN

With the Avengers Arm & Base Inventor Kit, your child become his/her own super heroes by customizing their high-tech Robo-arm! Students can code the Robotic Arm to perform different functions, such as changing the matrix of color screens. The goal of this summer camp is to help students understand the interactivity between hardware and software functions of electronics devices. The programming is similar to the LEGO Mindstorms set. The robots can hear sounds, detect objects, and can sense your body movement and gestures.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

  • Acquire coding skills in different block-based programming environments
  • Apply the coding skills on different robots including EV3, Dash and Dot and Littlebits
  • Build and connect different hardware components in robotics, such as lights, sensors and switches.
  • Enjoy plenty of opportunities of exploration and to be innovative
  • Experience the power of team work and support to conquer challenges, solve problems, and enjoy the ultimate satisfaction of success

THE BIG PICTURE

As technology is such a big part of our daily life that coding has become an essential and fundamental skill. Besides programming skills, coding and robotics programs stimulate curiosity, offer opportunities to innovate, encourage team, and instill persistence.

AM+PM Combo Session: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Option to add an AM session at discounted rate
  • Choose "AM+PM Combo" session to enroll
  • AM Session theme: "Hydraulics on Floatables and Vehicles"
  • Description below

THE FUN

Our automotive camp program is one of a kind! It incorporates hydraulics projects which include different designs of Hydraulic claws, gas free propulsion cars, catapults and simple machines. Your child gets to participate in competitions such as launching disks to know which travel the fastest and farthest.  In the process he/she will learn about the basic concepts vital to fluid power, which includes both hydraulic (liquid) and pneumatic (gas) systems. Our goal is to foster the next generation of young scientists by changing the way they perceive and interacts with the world around them. With a simple challenge, your kid can design and build a machine that solves the problem!

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

  • Physics concepts: Hydraulic principles of Pascal’s law
  • Acquire knowledge about the evolution of hydraulic energy and how innovative products were built based on the hydraulic principle
  • Experience and create a hydraulic system to make a claw, propulsion cars and catapults.

THE BIG PICTURE

As technology is such a big part of our daily life that coding has become an essential and fundamental skill.  Besides programming skills, coding and robotics programs stimulate curiosity, offer opportunities to innovate, encourage team, and instill persistence.

(Creative Writing and Public Speaking Camp)

I have not been happy with the creative writing and public speaking camp. My kid is in 2nd grade and he went to the Cupertino location. The camp we attended was "Public speaking and Creative Writing" . The camp structure was writing and speaking session in the morning and afternoon was Art work.
I did not see any output besides one small page of writing from my son at the end of 5 days. Some presentation was emailed to the parents on the last day but it looks like not every kid got a chance to even speak anything. Since my expectation was that this class would give at least one opportunity for each kid to speak and present (after all it is called public speaking camp) I am extremely disappointed.
The extended art class more like after school hours where the kids seemed to be drawing cartoon characters with little guidance from teacher. I was earlier told she would at least teach the kids different mediums of coloring - but all the work looked the same each day.
The main reason to choose this camp was to boost my kids confidence on speaking in front of others. The teacher did teach them elements of story-telling, which is great and they did write some short one paragraph stories. But seems like he completely missed on the public speaking part. At the end of 5 days the parents were sent a video and not ONE word in that is being spoken by my son. How can a teacher boost a kids confidence if you do not give each kid an opportunity to speak in the presentation. These little things do matter. It is okay to not be chosen to speak based on merit in a real production but this was supposed to be a public speaking summer camp.

Hi Aadi, we apologize for your disappointment. We did take this to heart and find ways to improve our Public Speaking Programs. It did take a bit time for us to restructure and thus respond to you. We have changed the structure of our curriculum since then. We have since adjusted the pace of our classes and fine-tuned the levels of our public speaking programs. So since then, students have been placed carefully to the level, based on their experience and level of comfort. To address your concern that not all students were given the opportunity to present in the final presentation, I have talked to my staff that all students should be given opportunities to participate, may it be only 30 seconds or a standard 2-minute presentation. As needed, those who are not ready to give an independent presentation could take a teach-prompt option.
To compensate your inconvenience, I would be more that happy to offer a free pass for your child to participate in one of our upcoming Public Speaking Program. Schedule will be posted in a week. I am sure you will find a totally different experience and hope that you are still open to work with us. Please do reach out when you are ready and I will send you the free pass code.
