Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center promotes forest stewardship through education by offering an unparalleled site for all ages to learn from the Opal Creek Wilderness. Our outdoor school program, with program scheduling available April through October, offers grade schools, university classes, and extramural groups a chance to approach environmental science in a hands-on, engaging format in the most beautiful classroom imaginable: the Opal Creek forest.
Our Staff

Nathan Reynolds / Executive Director

Nathan (he/him) joined Opal Creek in September 2021, after the Beachie Creek fire and in the midst of the COVID19 pandemic. He was a budding ecologist in his childhood and counted Great Blue Heron sightings on canoe trips or Indian Paintbrush flowers while hiking with his family. After a few divergent career choices and an eventual return to college for an environmental science education, he spent 15 years working with the Cowlitz Indian Tribe, where he came to understand more clearly the deep relationships between people and place. A lifelong learner, Nathan enjoys exploring the outdoors, hiking, camping, travel, good food, writing, and repairing and maintaining old mechanical and electrical things.
