About
University of Virginia Summer College Experience for Talented High School Students

Each summer the University of Virginia offers a rich selection of courses to over four thousand students through its Summer Session. Many of these courses are not available during the academic year. Summer Session students have access to an array of support services and extra-curricular activities.

The mission of the University's Summer Session is to supplement academic year course offerings, to facilitate fulfillment of undergraduate and graduate degree requirements, and to extend access to the resources of the University of Virginia to students enrolled at other colleges or universities, rising high school juniors and seniors, and lifelong learners.

A number of special two-week programs are offered in addition to the internationally known Summer Language Institute (SLI), English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, and UVA Advance, a four-week residential program for talented high school students (rising juniors and seniors.)

UVA Summer Session provides exceptional opportunities for visiting international students. Since classes are offered in an intensive format, in-depth learning and collaboration with faculty and fellow students are the norm. Students live in university housing, a short walk from classrooms, dining facilities, libraries and sports facilities. Orientation, special workshops, organized contact with resident UVA students and a rich line-up of activities complement the academic program and provide access to the high impact residential learning experience for which UVA is so well known.
