About
CodeREV Kids

CodeREV Kids Tech Camps provide a one-of-a kind camp experience for campers. Our camps are a wonderful way for campers to spend a week or several weeks out of the summer and school holidays learning important technology skills while having a fun-packed time that will create memories that last a lifetime.

With a healthy mix of project-based coding, programming or digital art, design, teamwork building activities off the computer, and outdoor games and activities in the park, our Tech Camps provide a perfect mix of fun, education, and life-skill building to keep each student motivated, having fun, and learning what they can't learn in school.

CodeREV Kids was born out of a desire to fill a need in education, a need to provide a true, comprehensive technology education in a fun, stress-free environment. Our STEM focused courses and tech camps provide the basis for a much deeper education in technology than what students receive at their schools. This is because our instructors are all both industry tested STEM and computer programming professionals, and because these instructors have gained a wealth of teaching experience to kids in STEM, Technology, and Coding in various formats.

Our Tech/Coding classes and camps are all project-based, which means students are applying computational thinking to each coding skill they learn and are using the highest level processing skills as identified by the Common Core for true comprehension of the material they are learning to use and apply.Further, CodeREV Kids is supported by education and technology experts out of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the MIT Media Lab, so it is a perfect synthesis of education and STEM. This is evidenced through CodeREV's amazing STEM and TECH Coding Camps and After School Classes.

Our Staff

Our staff are true experts in their fields, and in teaching. They have served as teachers and mentors for a minimum of 1 year, but most have taught for 3+ years.  Their passions lie in technology and in passing their wisdom off to others.  In addition to teaching experience, of course, everyone at CodeREV is fully background checked, fingerprinted, and most also possess CPR training and certification.

When I first registered him he has a teacher that was more patient in trying to show my son how to type certain codes. However this second round the teachers were impatient and really didn’t even pay attention if my son was part of the realm they or ensure he could follow along. I had explicitly asked if this camp was adequate for a 6 year old who didn’t fully read, didn’t know how to type and was barely learning how to navigate a PC let alone the game - this was too advanced and no one really cared if he learned. This class is appropriate for older kids who have prior knowledge with coding in Java. He didn’t even want to finish the week.

This class was fun for my 8 year old son because he had a chance to combine circuits and breadboarding with building a cool robot project that he could apply his coding skills and learnings to. I was impressed to learn that the company makes their own robotics kits and that what we took home (you have to purchase the kit for extra, but it's good value) was unique and not something you could get somewhere else. It also came with extra lessons, but he's taking the camp a second time to get deeper into the more advanced components.

Our son loves the Roblox and Minecraft camps here and he can't wait to take the Minecraft Design camp again. The instructors are very good and care a lot about what he learns at camp. They are happy to show his work and give detailed feedback too. Highly recommend.

Questions & Answers
We just got Minecraft for Nintendo Switch - would this class be appropriate for my child to take to learn how to play the game? (Minecraft Level Design & Engineering Online Camp) -

I'm pretty sure the Switch version is Bedrock edition, not Java edition, so it would not work for this class. See https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360034753992-Different-Minecraft-Editions -
Hi. My son hasn't done Minecraft before but would like to take this class. He has done coding in Scratch. What should we buy? Minecraft Java Edition on minecraft.net? Also should he have experience playing Minecraft before the class starts? Thanks! (Modding in Minecraft - Live Online Summer Camp) -

Hi there! Yes, he should be fine especially if he has done some coding in Scratch already. That's right, you should buy Minecraft Java Edition, which is a lifetime license, on minecraft.net. Here's a really helpful setup video guide we've shot that should help: https://vimeo.com/426460358 . Also, great intuition, it's ideal if he can spend a little time getting used to Minecraft on the computer before class starts. Thank you! -
How is this course differentiated for a kindergartener vs a 6th grader? In other words will this class be too difficult for a kindergartener? (Mathcraft, Math + Minecraft - Online Summer Camp) -

That's a great question. So the course is actually split into younger and older grades, and in the MathCraft Minecraft Server built for this class, there are different areas that are sectioned off for different scaffolded grade levels, and each of these areas contains math projects and math games that are grade level appropriate. When Minecraft Math projects are being built, older students like a 6th grader works on basic algebra and geometry, say in building a parthenon and finding the perimeter, surface area, and volume, while younger students such as a K or 1st grader works on building a house and counting the number of blocks around the house to find length and width, and then counting these up to find the perimeter. Classes are small enough to be able to break them up into groups by grades. -
If this course is provided online, what are the activities that are implemented to account for remote access? (Mathcraft, Math + Minecraft - Online Summer Camp)

This course utilizes a special Minecraft Server where CodeREV houses its MathCraft worlds, which it has built custom over 6 years of honing and testing over thousands of campers and students. So each student joins the secure server with a couple of clicks at the start of their camp once they've been invited, and then class takes place together as a group, led by the MathCraft teacher inside of the server. The way that this takes shape is that students and campers interact together and work together building math projects, being guided in-game by their live instructor, but they also work together to complete fun MathCraft mini games we've created, where they work together to solve math problems as they explore mazes and castles like the MathCraft Mansion and Haunted MathCraft Castle. Campers can see the lesson that their MathCraft teacher demos to them by viewing these in-game inside CodeREV's Minecraft server, or also through our screen share using Zoom Enterprise. -
