Student-Teacher Ratio 12:1
Any Beginner Students will receive 30 minutes of tailored introductory level instruction each class, and will be able to transition to the Intermediate level later in the semester!
For beginners looking to explore the basics of working with sound on the computer, and intermediate students continuing their learning in electronic composition! We will explore sound effects and soundscapes possible on the computer, play games with Chrome Music Lab, and learn on the digital audio workstation SoundTrap. We will explore field recording outside as well as using our computer microphones to record voice, instruments, or sounds around the house. We'll put creative tools to practice, like audio effects and editing techniques, to further develop student work. Projects will focus on creating musical compositions based on moods or images. We'll approach sound composition using visual, playful, and reflective methods of generation.
Students will explore drum beats, use digital instruments to make melodies and harmony, and use and transform audio samples for use in their work. By the end of the workshop students will have made a sound composition of their own, and have the tools ready to go at home to keep exploring!
