Our core premise is that we are all resilient. It is in each of us from day one. Sometimes we lose touch with our resilience, but it never goes away.
It has been empirically proven that people can engage in attitudes and activities to exercise and strengthen their resilience. Our programs are heavily informed by psychological research and by our founders’ life experiences as people who have overcome tremendous challenges.
Many of the empirically proven lessons and exercises that we guide students and their families through direct support the development of skills and mindsets that are critical to success in the college application process. These same learnings can be applied through college and adult life. In class, students will engage in fun learning activities that encourage resilience in a safe space. Students are encouraged to form new bonds with fellow participants, building their support network. Students learn how to express themselves in spoken word (speech making) and written word while exploring their lives and the successes and failures they have already had.
We are big believers in adults demonstrating their resilience by giving talks that are frank and real, thus we have exciting guest speakers and videos of people who explain how they maintained optimism and rose above hardship to accomplish their life goals. In addition to our two founders, the Bottom of the Box, LLC resilience workshops and other programs are supported and vetted by a select group of experienced educators, psychologists, and researchers. Our goal is to help your student to find and exercise their resilience in ways that will contribute to lifelong grit and optimism. We strongly believe in each student’s ability to rise to the meet life challenges and ultimately thrive and contribute to society. And we are here to help you ensure your child launches a successful and fulfilling life.
