Camp Excel focuses on developing social skills and the social awareness necessary for better relationships with other children and adults.
Camp Excel is a comprehensive program that combines therapeutic and recreational activities to develop social skills and build self-esteem to assist in making friends and keeping friends. Throughout the day, our all adult staff provide encouragement and guidance in using appropriate social skills, giving children the opportunity to experience in the moment learning, learning that stays with them!
Our Staff
The success of Camp Excel is largely due to the expertise and dedication of our staff. Our staff consists of professional staff and camp counselors. The professional staff includes the Director; Assistant Directors; Certified Special Education Teachers in the classroom; Certified Physical Education Teachers for sports skills training; masters Level Therapists to facilitate social skills groups and a Full-time Registered Nurse to provide first aid and administer medication. Our Camp Counselors are all adults, mostly teachers.
Camp Excel maintains a 3:1 ratio of children to staff. Each group is assigned a Lead Counselor and two or three additional counselors. These counselors remain with their group throughout the day and for the entire program. This consistency promotes campers bonding with other campers and with Counselors.
Prospective staff are very carefully interviewed and reference checks are completed. Fingerprinting and criminal background checks are required for all employees. Camp Excel has a very high rate of experienced staff returning each summer.
