Canopy Studio is a community arts center. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to enriching the culture of our community and the lives of individuals through flying dance trapeze, movement education and performance arts. Canopy is a resource for local artists and all individuals, regardless of background, age, or physical ability, providing instruction in movement arts and a much-needed venue for viewing and participating in performances.
The Canopy Repertory Company forms the backbone of the organization, teaching classes and workshops and presenting two major performances a year. With over 70 classes offered each week plus workshops, student performances and community outreach – the Canopy staff, teachers and Repertory Company work to continue the generosity of spirit and commitment with which the organization began.
Debbie Atwood / Senior Instructor
Debbie is a recently retired Speech Therapist but has found her new passion at Canopy. She is also an avid scuba diver. She enjoys flying under the water as well as in the air! She has been studying trapeze and fabrics at Canopy for about 8 years. She is now teaching adult fabrics and the occasional children’s trapeze classes. She also pioneered additional Open Studios so our students have more time to get in the air! She lives in Athens with her best friend and husband, John and their “herd” of 3 cats and 3 dogs.
Mara Bastow
Mara Bastow teaches kids slings and trapeze. She loves encouraging her students and watching them grow stronger- both physically and mentally!
