Learn all about the wonderful world of horses! Everything from basic horsemanship like leading and grooming to long term care like feeding, basic first aid, and more! Saddle a horse, learn about various kinds of tack, and why different disciplines use different equipment! You'll find out interesting facts about the history, evolution, and anatomy of the horse while picking up some horse lingo (did you know that horses are measured in hands?) and building a relationship with the horse you'll have throughout the camp session.
Every day campers will have a riding lesson and progress their skills throughout the week. When not riding, you'll get to play games, make new friends and get crafty!
For riding instruction campers will practice important skills like steering, controlling their horse's speed, and learning to post at the trot. Campers ride in groups based on age and experience, those students with more riding experience may progress faster throughout the week. Our teaching staff represents well over a century of training and riding experience, advancement is decided by the instructor who primarily considers the safety, skill, and maturity exhibited by the rider.
Whether they are a first time rider or a return camper, each kid is encouraged to expand their abilities and gain more confidence both on and off the horse. Our excellent instructors prioritize safety and fun during riding, groundwork, games, and hikes.
Our camp is onsite at the beautiful Wunderlich County Park which allows the campers to enjoy nature and a rich history of the landmark Folger Stables.
Bring your own lunch and don't forget your bottle of water!
Drop off and Pick up: Campers should arrive each morning between 8:55 and 9:15 AM. Pickup should be promptly at the end of the day at 2:00 PM. Your child’s safety and enjoyment at camp are very important to us. Being on time allows them to receive the maximum benefit of camp, and due to limited supervision after camp, it is important that they are picked up on time. Children must be picked up by 2:15 pm.
There will be a $1.00 per minute charge for every minute after 2:15 PM.
We’re sorry to hear that you felt the value didn’t quite meet your expectations. Our camp is designed to offer a well-rounded introduction to horsemanship, including one hour of horseback riding each day, as well as engaging hands-on activities, horse care education, and time spent bonding with the animals and fellow campers. Camp runs from 9 AM to 2 PM to ensure a fun, safe, and enriching day without overstimulating our younger riders—especially during warmer months.
We appreciate your thoughts and are always striving to improve. If you have any suggestions or would like to share more details, we’d love to connect directly. Thank you again for choosing our camp for your daughter’s summer adventure. Chaparral Staff
