The CCCSA serves as an educational hub for chess in the Charlotte area; offering camps, classes and lectures year round.

The CCCSA runs weekly and monthly chess events such as weekly rated play, special events, lectures, classes, weekend tournaments. The CCCSA is constantly making efforts to create partnerships with local and national educational programs to further the expansion of chess not only locally but nationally.

PETER GIANNATOS
Executive Director and Founder

Peter Giannatos grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, before moving to Charlotte in 2001. He attended James Martin Middle School and Vance High School before attending college at UNC-Charlotte.

Peter learned how to play chess at the age of 7, but did not compete in his first tournament until he was 13. In 2004, he competed in his first tournament, achieving a USCF rating of 589. With hard work and dedication, Peter achieved the expert rating (2000+ USCF) in 2008. Peter teaches students the same techniques he used to rapidly improve.

Peter earned his FIDE Master (FM) title (2300+ FIDE) in February of 2017. One of only 4 players in North Carolina history to earn that title. Peter is also a United States Chess Federation National Master (NM)/Life Master (LM) and Senior Tournament Director.

Honors & Awards

The CCCSA is devoted to chess education. Led by masters, our team of instructors are the most highly qualified in the Southeast. Regularly contributing to the advancement of our chess curriculum, our instructors are well equiped to provide the highest quality of chess education.

The Charlotte Chess Center was voted 2019 US Chess "Chess Club of the Year"

Yes. Camp is 4 hours a day. A few hours of chess then an hour of hands on art. There are a few breaks in between. -
