First Steps for kids
FirstSteps for Kids, Inc. specializes in improving the lives of children diagnosed with Autism, PDD, Asperger’s syndrome, and related disorders. Using state of the art, empirically validated ABA treatment, our highly skilled therapy teams work to remediate social, communicative, adaptive skills, and academic functioning while simultaneously reducing and decelerating maladaptive behavior.
FirstSteps for Kids, Inc. is thrilled to offer our new Summer Social Skills Intensive: FirstSteps to Friends. Created for preschool-aged children diagnosed with Autism and related disorders, developing pivotal social behaviors is the theme of this camp.
Give your child the wonderful opportunity of summer camp while continuing to focus on mastering treatment goals. Our clinical team, with expertise in ABA, will ensure your child’s specific social and communicative goals are intensively targeted during this fun-filled, four-week program.
FirstSteps to Friends is all about teaching kids to learn and have fun together. Campers will have non-stop opportunities to build new friendships and have a great time doing so.
Our Staff
Jennifer Harris (Founder), PH.D., LMFT, BCBA-D
Dr. Harris began her work with children diagnosed with ASD in 1991 at the Clinic for the Behavioral Treatment of Children under the direction of Dr. Ivar Lovaas while earning her B.A. degree in Psychology at UCLA. From 1992-2002 she worked at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders, Inc. where she ultimately became the Regional Director of the agency.
She received her M.A. degree in 1997 from Pepperdine University with an emphasis in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy. In 2003, she received her Doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California where she was awarded a Distinguished Dissertation for her study entitled Starting Out Strong: Early Treatment Intensity Predicts Outcome. In 2004, she became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. In addition, Dr. Harris is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
