Magic the Gathering trading card game has come to camp! Kids will learn the rules, practice building decks, compete with other campers, participate in fun tournaments and try to defeat our Planeswalkers (counselors). The goal is to help kids learn to play and provide them with some basic decks and accessories they can take home and begin to play with on their own.
Our camp is held outdoors at Mitchell park so the kids can get some sunshine while they play their favorite trading card game. Each day of camp will focus on a different segment of the game: rules, deck building, practice games, competition and try to beat the masters. No experience is necessary and kids will take home a couple of beginner decks, sleeves to protect their cards and a game mat so that they can start playing at home with friends and family.
Magic the Gathering is a trading card game with amazing art, lore and very cool fantasy themes. Each player can create their own playstyle and theme and pick a favorite color from black, white, blue, red and green (or include two or three in your deck). Then collect, build, trade and play! There is no end to the potential ideas and combos kids can come up with. Watch as their imaginations soar and their strategic minds engage.
Monday (Rules)- Kids will learn the rules. Some of the most common keywords and the core concepts will be covered. Then kids will take basic decks in hand and go through practical situations where rules and keywords come into play.
Tuesday (Deck Building)- Kids will learn to construct simple and efficient 40 card decks for play. How many of each cards should they have? Which color best suits how they'd like to play? What are the fundamentals to know when building their own decks in the future.
Wednesday (Practice)- Now that we know the rules and how to build decks lets put that information into practice. Let the games begin! Players will take their brand new decks of the color and style of their choice and skirmish vs the other campers. We all learn together and counselors watch games and give strategy tips and suggestions for players.
Thursday (Draft)- The action is heating up. We will hold a draft and kids will try to build a deck with some randomly drawn cards. They will have some opportunities to trade cards and compete in a tournament with potential bounties anyone can win.
Friday (Duel the Masters)- Now kids get together and try to come up with their best decks and take on the counselors. They can practice with each other until they are ready to take on the counselors. Beat the masters and earn glory, respect and prizes.
Prerequisites
Very basic arithmetic is needed (adding and subtracting).
What to Bring
Kids will need to bring their own lunch, water and sunscreen. They can bring their own accessories they may already have. We will have snacks and extra water. Beginner and practice decks will be provided by us. At the end of the week kids will go home with two basic decks, sleeves and a game mat.

They didn't go with the original plan and the kids ended up free play in local free park most days of the week. Very disappointed and would not recommend.
My grandson loved Dungeons and Dragons camp so much that he even wanted to go to bed earlier so the next day of camp would come more quickly. He had never played D&D before and was engaged all day long.
My 5 year old went to 6 different camps last summer through Palo Alto (Enjoy), Stanford, and Legarza - this was by far his favorite. He has asked that he only do this camp next year. He got to go to various locations around the Bay Area and explore nature. It was definitely his only camp where he was a kid being a kid. Will definitely do this next year!
I Don't Wanna Grow Up Kids Camp is all about kids being free to play in the outdoors. We will take kids to some of the most beautiful locations and let them…
