About
Kaiwa Art and Play Space

Kaiwa Art and Play Space is excited to offer classes that spark children's creative inquiry into a broad range of artistic materials and topics, learn skills spanning the arts, humanities, sciences, and technology, and engage students' curiosity about challenges and opportunities facing our world.  Children will be inspired to develop and grow a personal creative process through fun and challenging prompts, exposure to the uses of various materials, discussion of history, science, and technology, and freedom to experiment.  Art is an essential part of the human experience and brings joy and wonder into our lives.  Art surprises us, asks us questions, and highlights our shared experiences alongside our differences, encouraging empathy and understanding among people.  Through a fun and emergent curriculum, students will strengthen problem solving skills, critical thinking, emotional literacy, experimentation and mastery with materials, and collaboration with peers.

Kaiwa is excited to offer a schedule of fun and interdisciplinary summer art camps!
Under the guidance and care of the teacher, children will have toys, musical instruments, books, and art supplies to create a magical night for themselves! Birthday's Parties at Kaiwa are special - one week we might be making potions, wands, and playing Quidditch for a Harry Potter party, while the next we are making glitter slime and Sculpey unicorns to bake in the oven.Kaiwa loves science!  Explore the wonders of the world through fun experiments and science inspired art-making!  Experiments may include: slime making, lemon batteries, strawberry DNA extraction, bath bomb making, lava lamps, fizzy rockets, making a camera obscura, and more!

We will learn art fundamentals such as mixing colors and how to use the elements of art and principles of design to compose compelling and creative artworks.  Mediums used may include: charcoal, pencil, pastel, marker, tempera paint, acrylic, water soluble oil paints, watercolor, etc.  Students will draw on high quality papers and paint on canvases.  At the end of the week, children will help curate an exhibition of their work!
