Overview

Nutty Scientists science camps are an innovative form of “edutainment” (entertainment + education). Combining fun with learning, each camp contains an educational theme that keeps children engaged from day to day. One new theme is learned each day, and all activities are related to this theme, therefore children stay focused on one subject matter, solidifying the concept.

Nutty Jurassic Camp (Jun 10 – Jun 14) - DINOSAURS! Everyone loves these ancient creatures. Some of them are ferocious and strong, and some stretch tall to the sky. All dinosaurs though have some super cool scientific characteristics that we’ll learn about in the Nutty Jurassic Camp!

  • Monday - Jurassic Planet - Travel back in time, to a time before computers, cars, and even people! We are headed back to the age of the DINOSAUR! How do scientists know so much about this time? What did the planet look like way back then? On this day we will take our first look at the planet when it was occupied by the mighty dinosaurs.
  • Tuesday - Bones, bones, bones! - We learned about how scientists studied the planet, but how do they know so much about Dinosaurs? How big they were, what they looked like, what they ate. That all came from fossils! Not only will we dig for fossils, but we will get a chance to make our own!
  • Wednesday - Miniature Prehistoric Planet - Let's take our volcano knowledge a little further. What happens to that lava once it's cooled? Why is it important to study this when studying dinosaurs? We will get a chance to make our own miniature prehistoric planet on this day with all of our new-found knowledge on the Jurassic Planet!
  • Thursday - Anatomy of a Dinosaur - We've looked at the bones, but what surrounds those bones? What animals exist today that are closely related to dinosaurs? The answers may surprise you! Not only will we learn about dinosaur anatomy, we will get a chance to be creative and make our own dinosaur!
  • Friday - Living in a Prehistoric World - Time to get moving! Walk, run, and hunt like a dinosaur in Dino Gym! We will also take a look at other prehistoric animals and a little something called Pangea! Do you know what that is?

Forensic Science Camp (Jul 1 - Jul 3) - In this 3 day camp Students learn to become forensic experts and help detectives to collect evidence. The daily themes are:

  • Monday- Forensic Science and Mystery Bags - Practice scientific process skills such as observing and measuring.  Practice observation skills using all 5 senses.  Understand the difference between an observation and an inference.
  • Tuesday - Identification Clues and Ransom Notes - Students will learn about SCIENTIFIC CLASSIFICATION and how it applies to forensic science. Students will learn about fingerprints and how each one is unique and can be used as an accurate identifier
  • Wednesday -  Food Poisoning and Amazing DNA - Students will Gain a preliminary understanding of cells and DNA an nd the role that DNA plays in cells (DNA tells cells what to do). The day goes into understanding the basic techniques of extraction

Earth And Beyond Camp (Jul 29 - Aug 3) - Students will go on a journey of knowledge takingthem from the tiny details on Earth to the grand sciences in space. They will learn the mysteries of minerals and magnets and then will go to the space and learn about the sun, the moon, meteors and more things that must be dealt in a space mission. Related workshops, Cool Invention and/or Scienceful Art is used for this daily activities.

  • Monday - MAGIC OF MINERALS - Students will practice their observation skills and learn about minerals.
  • Tuesday - MAGNETS OF THE EARTH - Students will learn about magnets and use them to create cool projects.
  • Wednesday - SECRETS OF WATER - Students will learn about the properties of water and create cool boats.
  • Thursday - UP IN THE AIR- Students don’t necessarily have to see it but they will be amazed by what they can do with it.
  • Friday - EARTH AND BEYOND - We do live on Earth but it is not the center of the universe. Students will learn about space and what makes our planet special.

My daughter went to cooking and baking camp. Although, my daughter loved the idea of cooking some dishes, I do not think this camp was really a baking camp. My daughter told me that they were mostly asked to cut veggies, while an adult would make the actual dish. Although, she brought home some tasty dishes, she did not even know the recipe! I am not sure what is the point of a cooking and baking camp that does not allow kids to learn the recipe. Agree that it could be a liability to let kids cook, but I would imagine an adult can at least tell the kids step by step recipe, with kids watching it from a close distance. Not impressed with this camp.

My son, who is in kindergarten, didn’t use to like vegetables very much, but during this camp, he was very eager to eat them! He told us how the dishes were cooked and kept saying how delicious they were as he ate. I felt that the seasoning was more geared toward adults rather than kids (since there were also some spicy dishes), but the recipes were like something you’d get at a restaurant. We looked forward to what he would bring home each day. In fact, the meals brightened up our dinner table and improved the nutritional balance—we all enjoyed dishes we wouldn’t usually make at home.

I have enrolled my 6 year old daughter for ice skating camp with Little Champs. I am extremely satisfied. I was surprised that she could skate within one week of practice. I always love learning skills. This is worth the money.
Little champs did it very organized and with caution, taking the kids in bus and bringing them back. They also invited us to see the kids doing it on the last day of camp. Thumbs up and 5 stars.
