Overview

Student-Teacher Ratio 6:1

STEAM Rocketry Camp for ages 12 to 17 (younger requires an exception).  Discover the science behind space travel by learning CAD software while designing your custom rocket.  We will experiment with different rocket designs and simulate real-world examples for a deeper understanding of the scientific principles applied.

Young rocket scientists will
  • Create a hypothesis around launch altitude
  • Explore using CAD software and 3D printers to build a futuristic rocket design.
  • Simulate various engineering choices
  • Experiment with laser cut custom fin designs
  • Sew a parachute for their rocket’s recovery
  • Build their own rocket from fabricated components
  • Attend a Launch Day to launch your rocket! (Optional)

NOTE: The final day of this camp includes an off-site Field Trip for the launch day!

Friday Launch Site: TBA

Wow! First I want to review the Maker Nexus space and staff. The place is absolutely amazing! I’ve never seen so many different types of machinery, equipment, and technology all in one place. From the metal shop, woodworking, welding, sewing, 3D printing, laser cutter, vinyl and fabric printing, and so much more. The staff that I talked with were friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic. We were given a tour while I waited for my sons camp to start.
My son took the Rocketry camp. The 2 instructors, Fred and Danielle were fantastic, as were their assistants! They definitely know rockets and are enthusiastic about the hobby. The class goes into so much more than hobby rockets though. The class goes into math, trajectories and other factors that could influence each rockets launch. The final day of camp was launch day, and parents are invited to watch. It was fun seeing all the rockets, including many others besides the students. I would definitely recommend Maker Nexus and this Rocketry in particular.

Thank you for the nice feedback, and thank you for enrolling your son in our rocket camp. All of our camps are designed so that the kids do more than just build the "thing," we want them to conceptualize, design, build, and re-build, all while being part of a maker community where they can share ideas, what works, and what might work better. We are glad you got to witness the magic of our maker space! We hope to see your son at another camp or check out some of our family workshops. Our goal is to MAKE summer fun.
Questions & Answers
How will Covid concerns be handled? Will there be social distancing in the form of reduced classes and mandatory masks?
asked on Jun 12, 2020
Jun 13, 2020 - Eric Hess
We are following all of the County guidelines to keep everyone as safe as possible. We will be enforcing social distancing, as well as requiring masks at all times indoors. We've set up additional work space dedicated to students to give them more room to socially distance. We've limited camp enrollments as well, and will only be offering a single camp each week (typically we have 2-3 camps in various subjects running concurrently). The health and safety of our students and staff is our #1 concern, and we especially want to make sure students have a safe experience here. -
Is there already a SUMMER CAMPS Schedule? I dont see anything for summer available for registration??

Thank you for your interest,We are working hard on getting the classes online. We have a schedule, but still need to finalize the write ups and photos. Target is to have all set by end of this coming week: There will be a mix of camps from Textiles, robotics, electronics, woodworking and laser/3d printing for a variety of ages. The week of July 4th will be day camps with a different theme each day - those are posted for sign ups already. -
