Have you taken our Clausing Metal Lathe class, and want to take your skills to the next level? In this class, you’ll make your own dead-blow tool while learning intermediate techniques for working on the metal lathe, including tapping, single-point threading, and knurling.
Tapping and threading are essential processes for machining compound mechanical parts. Tapping is the process of adding screw threads to the inside of a hole, while threading is the process of adding a screw thread to the outside of a part. With these skills, you can make all kinds of custom metal parts that fit together with and without hardware. You’ll also learn how to create knurling (metal texturing) on the handle of a tool for easier gripping.
This workshop is offered for students who have already taken Maker Nexus’s introductory class, BOSS Metalshop: Clausing Metal Lathe, or who have been certified to use the metal lathe at Maker Nexus.
