In 1988, Ray Sensei set foot at Pasadena Aikikai, Pasadena. It was the first step in a long and continuous journey into the world of martial arts. Francis Takahashi Sensei (7th dan) was one of Ray's influential sensei. Equally important, Yoshimitsu Yamada Sensei (8th dan) left an imprint in Ray's aikido.
In 2005, he became Pasadena Aikikai's Chief Instructor. A few years later, he opened Maru Dojo (San Francisco, CA), a sister dojo to Pasadena Aikikai. Throughout the years in training Aikido, he also began his training in Filipino Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which is part of the The Affiliates (Roy Dean).
He also holds a black belt in Shorinji Kempo from the San Francisco Branch headed by Harada Sensei. Maru Dojo is one of the unique dojos. Ray sensei connects the dots between Aikido, Jiu-Jitsu and Filipino Martial Arts.
