Overview

MSM I is our introductory course to creative problem solving for middle school students. All students, from grades 6th-8th, are encouraged to start with this class, unless they have a significant background in problem solving and competitions.

Goals

  • To stimulate enthusiasm and a love for Mathematics
  • To teach major strategies for problem solving
  • To develop flexibility in solving problems
  • To strengthen Mathematical intuition
  • To foster creativity and ingenuity
  • To provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting challenges
  • To learn to work effectively on a small team
  • To cultivate risk taking and tenacity

Our philosophy: Your brain is like a muscle - you have to use it to make it stronger. Mathletes will be solving challenging problems every week in practice.

Online Curriculum Our proprietary curriculum is online. As a result, students have the opportunity to tackle fun challenges through the week.  We have organized problems into progressively more difficult problem sets. This gives Mathletes multiple opportunities to feel successful. All answers are processed online, giving students immediate feedback.

We do not approach competitions as a high-stakes endeavor. The goal is to have fun and try to solve some interesting - and challenging - problems. This year we will practice for, and students will be encouraged to participate in, a wide range of competitions, including…

Our son really enjoys Coach K's classes. He takes them online in the school year and during the summer. He's learned creative problem solving skills and is performing well in math competitions. He looks forward to class and has a lot of fun with the students and teachers.
