Overview

Learn to create graphics for your website, video presentations for class projects, animated birthday cards for friends, original website content, social media marketing content, and much more.

This course is geared towards beginners and students with no previous knowledge of graphic design.

In this 4-week course, students will learn how to use Canva - a free graphic design tool - to embellish their creative endeavors with their own unique designs. At the end of the course, students will take away tools that will help them build their next project to another level of refinement. Watch your teacher get amazed by the quality of your submissions or improve user traffic to your website by creating engaging content.

My knowledge of this course comes from my real-world experience creating logos, visuals, and original content for my own websites, creating educational videos for my interactive online science curriculum, my own social media marketing content, and with proven results from other students' school projects.

We meet once a week for 55 minute live lessons.

Each student will be required to create a free account on canva.com to get started. This account should be created with the parent email address for Safety and security purposes.

Once logged in we will start by understanding the overall layout of CANVA and its various features. We will work on creating the basic settings for our account.

We then move on to learning about the amazing array of design options that canva offers- Logos, animated presentations, Magazine cover, zoom virtual background, videos, Instagram stories, comic strips, website content, flyers, banners just to name a few.

Throughout the course, we will try out at least 3-5 of these options to understand how they work and download them for further use in our projects. Students will also learn about the Brand Kit feature on Canva and how it works.

Next, we will learn about the editing tools that Canva provides which can help enhance our designs. Some examples are background removers, shadow creation tools for a 3D effect, Frames, Pixelate, Smart Mockups, and much more.

Next, we will work on a small project that allows students to apply all the knowledge they have learnt so far. Students can choose to share this project with their class at the end of the course.

I have loved creating graphic designs for my own projects. Sometimes it was so much fun and that I lost track of time. At other times I got excited about new, creative ideas that popped into my head as I went into my "zone" ( state of flow) as I worked on my design.

I hope to bring out the same experience for my students by introducing them to the world of graphic design through this course.

Let's have fun creating!

My daughter loved this program. She learnt a lot during the entire semester . She loved the projects and also gained confidence in her building skills as well as public speaking skills during sharing sessions. Great STEM and design thinking program . Love the hands on element and student centered focus.
