We believe in the power of education, and we believe in kids. As parents and teachers, we’re all on the same team, supporting students to success. Our after-school academy is here to help your child achieve, no matter what level they’re at.
Homework Assistance Program: In the homework assistance program, tutors work with small groups of 3-4 students to provide them with all-around academic support. Your child’s tutor will help them complete homework assignments, reteach confusing concepts from class, prepare for tests, and teach them the studying and organizational skills needed to succeed in school. This program is the best choice if your child struggles with daily homework assignments or needs general support in all areas.
Subject Tutoring Program: In the subject tutoring program, students receive in-depth tutoring in a specific subject. Upon enrollment, your child will receive a diagnostic test to determine their unique strengths and needs. Working in collaboration with our Site Supervisor (an experienced teacher), the tutor will develop a custom curriculum for your child that will help them grow in their given subject. This program is the best choice if your child needs remedial help or is looking to get ahead or prepare for SBACC testing and the district writing test used for Whitney eligibility. The group size for subject tutoring is 2 students maximum.
Private Tutoring Program: For older students or those unable to attend one of our campus locations, we offer in-home private tutoring for both our Homework Assistance and Subject Tutoring programs. We will pair your student with one of our private tutors and set up a regular, weekly time for tutoring. All private tutors work directly with our director to strategize and lesson plan for your child’s sessions.
Karyn Keene - Director
Karyn began her career in education as an Honors English & History teacher at a co-op High School and as an Elective teacher for Middle and Elementary students teaching Spanish, Creative Writing, STEM Clubs, and more! In 2015, she partnered with Biola University’s Youth Academics program to develop and launch an Elementary Academy. Brought in as their Math and English specialist, she oversaw the development and implementation of Math and English programs for grades 1-6 at three different school sites. In addition to working as an educator, Karyn also has extensive experience in digital marketing. Hired as a project manager at a web development firm, she learned everything she could about digital strategy, branding, and management skills. While working there, she taught herself to code and struck out on her own as a freelance web designer and developer. Today she runs Keene Web Design, where she helps small business owners find online success through branding, web design, and digital advertising.
