The San Francisco Creative Writing Institute (SFCWI) is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive and empowering space for writers of all backgrounds. In our workshops, performances, and events, we nurture a sense of belonging, incubating and refining writing skills, helping young storytellers craft meaningful work that engages with issues of our time, narrates the world around them and challenges the status quo. SFCWI believes that anyone can learn to be creative and write their truth. We feature workshops for adult writers beginning-professional level at Harvey Milk Center for the Arts on Saturdays, Creative Writing Workshops for Teens and Elementary school age children over the summer and during the week after school. Our clients range in age from 8-88, and come to us from all walks of life. We work with beginners, and help professional writers achieve publication. Our students have gone on to produce solo shows, become faculty in Creative Writing at top universities, get book deals, and become international best-selling authors. We also have a lot of fun.
Our staff all have taught at the college level, have at least Master's Degrees in their field of study, and have published and performed their work extensively. We check the references of our staff. The faculty and staff that work with K-12 students have undergone livescans and background checks.
Our faculty, staff and board members have received numerous awards.
We have two SF Poet Laureates on our board.
One of our students became an international best-selling author.
