About
Su Yun's Chinese Learning Center

At Su Yun’s Chinese Learning Center, our mission is to blend the teaching of Chinese heritage with a touch of modern innovation through a project-based, design-thinking methodology. Utilizing the latest in technology, science, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) as teaching vehicles, Su Yun’s Chinese Learning Center aims to immerse students in the Mandarin language through authentic Chinese arts, music, history, folklore, food, and other genuine experiences, with a goal to inspire students to be inquisitive and thoughtful.

We live in a digitally connected, global era. Children today will have new challenges when they reach the workforce. Learning to read, write, and speak Mandarin will provide these children with a competitive edge in the future. Additionally, the Chinese culture is an ancient and beautiful culture that can be taught through language. We understand that learning a language unto itself is not enough for most children. There needs to be something else; something else to draw and engage children to create a self motivation to learn Chinese. We believe this can be accomplished through progressive and project-based learning, utilizing STEM-related activities but with the Chinese language in support.

This was our first time at Sun Yun's camp for both of my kids (age 6 and 8), so we were a little nervous on how it was going to be received by them. We are now at the end of our second week with one more to go and it's been magical for the whole family.

Both kids LOVED the fun, hands-on STEM activities. They brought home DNA they created with candy this week (picture enclosed). It was also fun to hear the age appropriate explanations. My younger son came back sharing that, "DNA is what makes me, me!". From the parent perspective, we love that the program was available for the full day from 8am - 6pm and that they are getting some Mandarin reinforcement while school is out. We all appreciate that there is a good amount of outside play. The kids are particularly enjoying the rotation of new parks they get to explore.

The Su Yun team has also been very mindful of COVID safety. From separated cohorts, only allowing kids and staff on site (with drop-off at the door) to temperatures being taken on arrival every morning and masks being worn.

The attention to detail is also impressive. My younger son turned 6 this week and without any prompting, he was sent home with a surprise birthday goodie bag of treats that included school supplies and snacks.

We hope to be back next year!
