West Coast Fencing Academy
West Coast Fencing Academy is led by Olympic bronze medalist, multiple gold-medal World Champion and Head Coach, Nick Kovalev.
Our fencing club’s approach is uniquely tailored to each fencer’s individual abilities, needs and goals. We offer one of the largest state-of-the-art fencing facilities in Southern California, with some of the best focused fencing programs, and where students feel welcome and inspired to succeed.
Fencing is a popular sport found at elite and Ivy League US Universities, such as Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Brown, Columbia, Notre Dame and many others. Top level fencers are commonly recruited for collegiate NCAA fencing teams at these schools. Many of our fencers work to become those top-level fencers, training for and competing in National and International competitions, representing the US at some of the largest and most famous fencing events worldwide, including at the Olympic Games and World Championships.
West Coast Fencing Academy offers saber fencing programs for all ages and skill levels. If you are a competitive athlete or someone who wants to learn and enjoy saber fencing for fun, welcome to West Coast Fencing Academy.
Founded in 2017
Our Staff
Head Coach Nick Kovalev
Nick arrived to the United States in April 2017 after completing a successful and competitive sports career.
He is a 3-time Olympian and Bronze medalist from the 2012 London Olympic Games. Coach Nick is also a 5-time World Champion and 5-time European Champion. He was Multiple champion of Russia, Multiple Champion of the World and Europe as a junior.
He graduated from the National State University of Physical Education in Saint-Petersburg (2011 Master’s degree). He was a National fencing team member of Russia since 2002.
Nick has been trained by many of the best National and European coaches. He holds 23 years of fencing experience.
