Students drill math facts and master mental computation at their level using skip counting songs, number charts, games and hands-on activities. They earn stamps to buy prizes at the end of each session in the Star Store and return to school much more confident in the fall!
Maker Camp: Pirates vs. Vikings
Pit two of the greatest seafaring warriors against one another and you never know what may happen! Will you arrive at the halls of Valhalla? Will you sink down into Davy Jones' Locker? Only you can determine who will triumph: Vikings vs. Pirates.
Engineering
Swab the deck takes on new meaning when you engineer a cannon that shoots Q-tips! Learn to navigate using the stars and create a padlock to protect your hidden doubloons.
Tech Lab
Rig light up origami cannonballs, engineer a lego boat, battle your doodle bot against others' to find out which is the last one standing.
ReCreation
Design your own viking helmet; race other pirates to find the treasure, and duel on a plank.
Art Exploration
Create a 2-D layered ocean and ship scene; design a mosaic dragon; make a treasure map; paint your personal skull and crossbones.
About Maker Camp
Each summer Chronos Academy opens its program to Rising TK-6th grade kids in the community!
Every day Maker Campers learn about great Makers of the past while becoming the Makers of the future. Chronos Academy integrates Making projects into its curriculum to bring history, culture and science to life. Maker Camp introduces the exciting projects for our upcoming school year. Chronos Academy’s Maker Camp, a registered affiliate of MAKE: Magazine Maker Camp, engages kids over the summer with meaningful, creative, project-based learning activities.
Rising 1st-6th grade Campers rotate by age group every day to all four Maker Camp components: Engineering, Tech Lab, Art Exploration & ReCreation. Whether it's with wires, gears or glue, campers Make connections they didn't know existed. In a comfortable 6:1 camper-to-staff ratio, these makers have all the help they need to succeed.
Mini Makers (rising TK-Kindergarteners) do all the same projects plus more in an age-appropriate classroom. Optional: Mini Makers can opt for a modified schedule 9:00 AM-1:00 PM.
Maker Camp - Maker Mentor Application
Maker Mentors are 6th-10th graders who love Making and love kids. As model campers they do behind-the-scenes prep work & clean up, offer tips & tricks for younger campers, and demonstrate ROATS - Respect Others And Their Stuff! They can receive a letter of recommendation upon completion.
Maker Camp makes the biggest impact on Mentors as they make the biggest impact on Campers!
*First time Maker Mentors must interview with a Camp Director prior to acceptance. Email celeste@chronos.academy to schedule.
*Registration Fee is discounted 50% for Maker Mentors to be invoiced if application is accepted.
Mentor Code
Attend Maker Mentor Orientation Sunday 6:30-8:00 PM prior to the first day of Maker Camp.
Have a positive attitude! Be enthusiastic about all projects & activities!
Be respectful to campers and camp directors.
Report all incidents to camp director immediately.
Wear camp T-shirt & mid-length shorts or pants each day.
Keep track of campers, their property & their projects.
Encourage respect & creativity and inspire campers to be like you!
Maker Camp: DaVinci's Inventions
Open your eyes to see the world like no one has seen it before. What possibilities can your imagination create? Follow the greatest inventor DaVinci to remake reality.
Engineering
Measure windspeed with your self-made anemometer, reinvent one of DaVinci's flying contraptions.
Tech Lab
Invent an electric machine that rolls, throws, draws or sings. Recreate a fan into a spin art device.
ReCreation
Playact in a Shakespearean sword fight, navigate Venetian canals, play cosmic tag, cork boats, penny gliders, marble run
Art Exploration
Get to know Renaissance artists & test their techniques on your own masterpieces.
