Student-Teacher Ratio 8:1
Students will spend time reviewing key Algebra 2 and Geometry concepts and skills, setting some additional groundwork that will support success in Precalculus. The specific concepts and skills covered will be determined by the needs of the students enrolled.
Knowledge to prepare for Precalculus includes:
● Simplifying, solving, and graphing quadratics
● Geometric (coordinate geometric) definitions of parabola (focus and directrix) and circle (center, radius)
● Simplifying, solving, and graphing polynomials
● Simplifying, solving, and graphing rationals
● Simplifying, solving, and graphing exponentials
● Definition, use, and identities of logarithms (some graphing)
● Simplifying, solving, and graphing absolute value (1 and 2 dimensions)
● Simplifying, solving, and graphing radicals
● Right triangle trigonometry (six trigonometric ratios)
● Unit circle (degrees and radians, trig ratios for any angle that is a multiple of 30 or 45 degrees / pi/6 or p/4 radians)
● Graphing trigonometric functions, modeling periodic phenomena (focus on sine and cosine, but should be familiar with the other 4)
● Basic trigonometric identities (definitions, reciprocals, Pythagorean identities)
● Conditional probability
● Statistics of the normal distribution
Skills to prepare for Precalculus include:
● Abstraction and use of variables
● Algebraic proofs and derivations
● Computational and algebraic accuracy
● Showing work clearly/explaining logic in writing or out loud
● Checking answers -- using a secondary strategy and/or a gut check
